If you’re a web developer, at some point you are going to need to choose a hosting solution. And while there are a slew of options out there, not all hosting solutions are made equal. Finding one that fits your needs is easier said than done. Finding unpaid and unbiased reviews of these hosting solutions is even harder.
Please, please, remember: just because your domain is registered in one place it does not mean that you have to host in the same place. Integration may be the best option for you.
So, I’ve done a little research for you.
If your business is smaller, or just simply new, consider hosting on Bluehost. It has cloud-based hosting and storage that makes it really simple to integrate with an existing site. It even has WordPress integration that is ideal for developers of all skillsets. Their 24-hour support is available to all customers, making problem-solving that much easier. Essentially, Bluehost makes web hosting really simple…even if you have no idea what you’re doing.
If you’re looking for a streamlined setup process, Digital Ocean might be for you. Also cloud-based, Digital Ocean is pretty decent for the cost and has flexible packages depending on your businesses needs. It’s pay-as-you-go, so you’re not wasting money on resources or features that you don’t actually want or need.
As your business starts to grow, you can add more options and resources. But you’ll be paying more, too. They’ve also got pretty killer customer support!
Let me start by saying that Rackspace has an excellent uptime rate…99.99% to be exact. Other areas, however, come with slightly mixed reviews. After going public a few years back, it seems that customer support can be tricky to navigate and difficult to get in touch with as a result. So, if you’re looking for excellent uptime, Rackspace is great. But just know that you’ll be sacrificing in other areas to get it.
Ahh, Media Temple. A little more expensive, but it provides an array of plan options to suit any kind of business. Media Temple guarantees outstanding uptime. They’re so serious about it that they give a 20% discount for each 20 minutes the server is down. Can’t beat that!
Media Temple provides 24/7 telephone support, a mobile app, and WordPress integration. That makes them a serious contender in my book.
